OOTD - #tbt

Ya'll, sometimes I get surprised at just how cyclical fashion can be.  I mean, I know the 90's fashions are back, but it still takes me by surprise when I see images like this, and realize that it's from RIGHT NOW:

But it's not a bad thing.  It's so much fun to see the revival of trends like wrap dresses, sneakers with dresses, and updated athleisure make a second showing.  So, in the spirit of 90's revival, I figured it was high time to debut the vintage 90's GAP overalls I happened across recently:

OOTD - Double Up

I keep finding old outfit photos from this summer that just need to be shared!  Even if multiple outfits end up being basically the same thing:

...... look familiar?

OOTD - Waiting for the Weekend

If my latest Intstagram post was any indication, I'm having a hard time focusing today.  Also, can we just take a vote now and make #thursdayisthenewhumpday an official 'thing' from now on?  I don't know what it is, but Thursday is my 'let's daydream about this weekend and all the things I'll do... or bingewatch on Netflix depending on my mood' day of the week.  So, in honor of my distraction, I'll just distract ya'll with some weekend wear to prep for those oh-too-short days of the week.

Thrifted Pinterest - Polyvore, Take 2

Time for another IRL version of a Polyvore board!  My work schedule has left a LOT less time for scrolling through Pinterest, so I'm relying on my trusty outfit boards I've built based on stuff in my overstuffed closet.  (it's embarassing, really... like Turkey-Day-quality overstuffed.)  It's got all kinds of thrifted goodies in there, including a dress from a brand I probably *wouldn't* go out of my way to shop with normally...

Thrifted Pinterest - According to Plan

So, I'm a little late to the party (as always!), but I finally got the Polyvore app, and have been going crazy with outfit planning since then!  I've been pinning all my creations to my Polyvore board on Pinterest, so feel free to follow along to see what outfit inspirations I'm putting together (because I know your plans all revolve around what I'm wearing at any given time, right?).

Anyways, other than adding in a jacket for the chilly mornings, I do really love the final product inspired by this board:

Thrifted Pinterest - The Best Intentions

You remember my last post?  The one where I mentioned the crazy weather?  We got some wind too.  AND, as it turns out (and this is crazy, I know), it's almost impossible to get decent pictures in a flowy skirt on a windy day.  In fact, I can just about guarantee you won't look nearly as effortless as this:

Thrifted Pinterest - I Got it from Rihanna

Sometimes, certain items just call to you... Graaacceee, buyyy meeeeee, ooooooooohhhhh  That's the true story of what happened with the pearl choker I recently found at a local thrift store.  Of course, then I got it home and had to search the interwebs for some styling inspiration.  And pop princess Rihanna happened to give me a little idea for layering that I had to pick up on:

Today's outfit is inspired by two pins:

Thrifted Pinterest - Finally

I scrolled through some of the blog's archives the other day, and realized how many sewing projects I used to do!  Then, Baby A came along, and while our family grew in love, he also cut down the amount of free time I have to sew.  I did finish one project recently, and as soon as outside temps got out of the super chilly, I grabbed the opportunity to wear it!  I finally got to re-create my own version of this pin:

I had a skirt that I snagged at a clothing swap last year, that just needed the lining shortened.  One afternoon and multiple baby interruptions later, and this outfit was born:

Introducing.... Real Life Thrifted Pinterest!

Something you should know about me: I love, love, LOVE thrift shopping!  There's just something about sifting through the racks of clothes, my hands skimming over the various fabrics as I look for patterns that catch my eye, that makes it my number one favorite hobby.  It's like a treasure hunt!  The thing about thrifting, though, is that I can't always take everything with me.  No matter how badly I'd love to bring home a vintage Pendleton suit at a steep discount, with it's decorative gold buttons and Virgin Wool construction, I really have no reason to have one in my closet.

Until now!

Thrifted Pinterest - Imaginary Me

Sometimes, I shop for the 'imaginary' me, rather than the 'in the trenches of motherhood' me, and it's so much fun!  For example, when I happened across a faux leather pencil skirt, I knew that I was going to buy it.  Granted, most days are just spend in jeans and a tee, but sometimes I actually have time to get all 'gussied up,' and what's better than a little bit of leather?  I balanced it with a floaty white top, like the examples below, and released my inner bada**, at least for a day.

Thrifted Pinterest - Thrift Tips

Hey, howdy, hey everybody!  I'm super excited about this weekend, since a group of friends and I are having a girl's night this Saturday.  We're going to be checking out a new HUGE thrift store in our area, and so, in preparation, I thought I would share a few of my tips for a fun, mostly stress-free thrift shopping trip.  Bear in mind, there are more options at a thrift store than just clothes, such as great deals on dishes and housewares, but I'll focus on just the clothing for this post.

1. Have a (very general) shopping list, either physical or mental.

Thrifted Pinterest - Copycat

So, the world keeps turning, and I still have to get dressed every morning.  Such is life, and really, it's a great life!  I thought I'd share an outfit from a few days ago, that's basically a copy of a Pinterest outfit I pinned after finding a new dress at the thrift store.  Here's the original:

OOTD - SIA / Beza Threads

Ok, so, I'm back!!  I decided to take a while off from blogging (almost a month!), in order to think, focus on my family for a while, and answer a few personal questions I had.  One of those questions?  Why do I blog?  To be honest, I haven't really gotten to the root of the answer to that, because of so many varying reasons.  I love sharing my outfits, I have to get dressed in the mornings anyways, and I love the creative outlet, among many other things.  Another reason I began blogging was in order to share Fair Trade and ethical companies with you, and that reason has only intensified in the past few weeks.  Part of the conversation that starts with asking, "Who made my clothes?" is finding fashionable alternatives from companies committed to enacting positive change in our world.  I want to start re-focusing on that aspect of the blog, so expect a lot more Fair Trade Friday posts in the future!!

It seemed only fitting to come back from my little hiatus with an outfit featuring a scarf I received from Beza Threads, a company I recently wrote about in my Fair Trade Friday feature.  I love what Beza Threads is doing, as they join in the fight against human trafficking by caring for survivors in Ethiopia.  And, it seemed only fitting to include my new scarf in this round of Style Imitating Art, hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey.  Here's the painting that is the inspiration for the outfits:

Thrifted Pinterest - SUMMER!

In case you haven't noticed, it's hot outside.  It's the kind of hot that makes me only want to wear outfits that scream

SUMMER!!!

There's nothing more summery than white paired with bright colors, so I decided to take a pair of capris I thrifted for 50 cents, and turn them into some summer-ific shorts (it's a word. Really...) using this tutorial:

Ta-Da!

Outfit Details:
Top: via secondhand shop, $5
Shorts: DIY, thrifted, $0.50
White Necklace: Wal-Mart, $1 (clearance)
Other Necklaces: DIY, $2.50 for materials

Grand Total: $24

{Okay, here's the thing: I love the colors and pattern of this top, but my DIY side also wants to turn it into a kimono.  It should be easy enough, just cut down the middle and hem the edges, but I don't know which way would get more wear in my closet. I really can't decide, so how about I let ya'll decide for me!}

What do you think, cut it or leave it?  Let me know in the comments!

Thrifted Pinterest - Who?

I have a new obsession.  I just started watching Doctor Who, and haven't been able to stop!  It appeals to my nerdy side, and I can't get enough.  It also inspires some DIY's, like mimicking one of the main character's, Rose's, open-shouldered tee shirt from the beginning episodes:

See, isn't it a cute update to a basic tee?  I had a grey tee I had gotten with a referral credit from ThredUP, and with the help of this tutorial, re-vamped my shirt.  It paired great with a new skirt I recently found, and I went all-out with the accessories to complete my 'updated hippie gypsy time and space traveler' look.  Now, if only my closet were bigger on the inside like the Tardis!
